2nd BJCA Rep - Reminder

Just a reminder that if you want to put yourself forward for the BJCA Rep role then I need a personal statement from you by midnight on Monday 1st February - 150 words max.

Please e-mail it to me.

8th BSH Heart Failure Day for Revalidation & Training - 3rd March 2016

Dear All,

I have been asked to publicise this very clinically relevant meeting more widely.

The programme can be accessed here - apart from featuring me, it otherwise looks excellent...

The venue is the Golden Jubilee Hospital in Glasgow, which has a rather bizarre hotel attached, offering reasonable rates for accommodation - see the link above.

Please also note that I have been informed by Shawn Morais that the National Training Day in Leeds is a re-run of the Training Day held in London in November - Therefore, if you attended that day, I would recommend registering for the GUCH day in Southampton instead on the 17th March.

Core Training in Echocardiography - 25-26th February, London

Dear All,

Please follow this link for a flyer for this course to be held in London on 25-26th February.

The programme can be accessed here.

I attended this in Nottingham a few years ago and did find it very helpful when preparing for the BSE exam. The rate is quite attractive at only £100 for BSE members.

Apologies to those of you who are now receiving 2 emails with the blog posts - please feel free to unsubscribe to one of them.

Training Days 2016

Dear All,

Please see the updated training day tab for some of this year's dates.

There is no meeting planned for February.

On 17th March there is both the National Training Day and a GUCH day at SGH - Attendence at the National Training Day is encouraged, but you may choose to attend the local meeting instead - either could be counted when calculating your attendence rate for the year.

The South Coast Heart Failure Meeting will again be taking place on the 22nd March - Obviously I think this is likely to be excellent, but I may be somewhat biased. Registration via Chris Boos ASAP is advised.

D'oh

So, apparently the e-mail auto delivery system is still working.

Apologies for the confusion.

Please note that I have added the National Training Day on the 17th March 2016 in Leeds to the Training Day page of the blog. Register now via the BCS website and book your study leave...

Post e-mail fail...

Dear All,

Unfortunately, the process by which the posts are automatically e-mailed out seems to have broken down.

I have tried several fixes, but it seems that a reboot is in order.

I'm afraid, therefore, that everyone will need to sign-up again using either this link, or by entering their e-mail address in the box on the right.

Please accept my apologies for this inconvenience.

Evening Meeting 27th January - CANCELLED!

Dear all,

I have just been informed that the meeting planned for next Wednesday has been cancelled at the last minute. This is apparently the result of a funding issue on the sponsor's part.

There is likely to be a plan to reschedule and I will keep you all informed. Unfortunately you will need to make your own dinner arrangements...

2nd BJCA Rep

Dear All,

As you may know, James Rosengarten is now a fully fledged Consultant. As such, he is giving up the reins as BJCA Wessex Rep and all round Trainee Legend. I am sure you will all join me in thanking him for all his amazing work in this role over many years.

This now leaves a vacant position for a second Wessex Rep and I would like to invite expressions of interest. This should also allow for a handover period as I approach my own CCST later this year.

As before, could anyone interested in the role please e-mail me with a 150 word personal statement explaining why they feel they would be suitable. The deadline for expressing your interest will be 1st February 2016. If there are several candidates then I will put it out to a vote via this blog.

Evening Meeting 27th January - Update

Dear All,

Hopefully you will have remembered that there is to be an evening meeting on Wednesday 27th January at the Holiday Inn Hotel, Eastleigh.

Richard Jones, Consultant at QAH, will be presenting on "Leadership Skills".

I would urge as many people as possible to attend this sponsored meeting - These sorts of things are beloved of consultant interview panels and the more exposure to them, the better.

Registration will be from 17:00 with anticipated start at 17:30. Dinner will be served afterwards at 20:00. Even if you think you may be a bit late then I would advise you to come - No need to pre-register.

EEGC (KBA) - Registration Now Open

Dear All,

Please be advised that registration for this year's European Exam in General Cardiology (formally the KBA) is now open for all of you at ST5.

Follow this link to register before the closing date of Friday 26th February.

The date of the exam is Thursday 16th June 2016 - so book the day off now if you need it.

I trust that everyone is settling in to their new posts and has had more success in acquiring ID badges and parking than I have at Portsmouth...

As soon as the dates for this years training days are available I will let you all know.
